Vast Quiet is a small editorial desk in Downtown. We publish field notes for travellers who would rather arrive without a caption. If a location has a famous title, we set the title down and describe the light instead. A place is a temperature, a smell of dust after shade, a door left ajar.

The hours before heat

There is a fashion for arriving already informed. The traveller carries a spine of titles and spends the day matching the ground to the spine. We tried that. It made every street into a checklist. So the desk changed the clock. We go out while the stone is still cool.
