Note 06 · A clock, not a map

Hours of light

Landscapes change more by hour than by distance. Use this as a timetable for unnamed walking.

04:40

First pale

Water, basins of sand, empty lanes. The city has not put its face on. This is the only honest hour for photographs.

Dawn water

09:10

Dry perfume

Markets, bakeries, courtyards. Spice and bread write the streets. Walk with cash in small folds.

Morning spices

13:00

White heat

Do not collect views. Collect shade. Read, rinse, sleep if the room allows. Ambition at this hour is a form of sunstroke.

Hot sand close up

16:45

Copper glass

Facades, terraces, the salt line. Everything becomes edible to the eye. Stay longer than the fashion of sunset.

Copper light on stone

21:20

Low lamps

Eat where the room is already loud with regulars. Walk home on streets that still have chairs outside.
